Preakness_2010If you aren’t going to be in Baltimore for the 138th annual Preakness Stakes that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the race’s signature Black-Eyed Susan cocktail. Named for the blanket of flowers draped over the winner’s neck, the Black-Eyed Susan has a number of variations depending on the bartender. Below you can find this year’s official Black-Eyed Susan recipe in addition to our very own Bickering Ivy Black-Eyed Susan. 2013 Official Preakness Black-Eyed Susan
1 1/4 oz. Finlandia Vodka
1/4 oz. St. Germain Liqueur
2 oz. Lemon juice
3 oz. Lemongrass & Blackberry simple syrup
6 drops of Angostura Bitters

Chill your ingredients. Combine, stir, and serve over ice in a 10 oz. highball glass. Garnish with one sage leaf.

Bickering Ivy Black-Eyed Susan
1.5 oz. Vodka
1.5 oz. Bourbon
2 oz. Orange juice
3 oz. Sweet & Sour Mix
1 Maraschino cherry
1 Orange Slice

Chill your ingredients. Combine vodka, bourbon, sweet & sour mix, and orange juice. Stir and serve over crushed ice in a 10 oz. highball glass. Garnish with a cherry and an orange slice.
